Unpopular Opinion
Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!
How voting works:
Vote the opposite of the norm.
If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.
Guidelines:
Tag your post, if possible (not required)
- If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
- If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].
Rules:
1. NO POLITICS
Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.
2. Be civil.
Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...
Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.
5. No trolling.
This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.
6. Defend your opinion
This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.
Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

Is the furry thing like absolutely a sexual thing? I always thought some were but I figured many just liked the aesthetic or something.
Not all furies are sexual we actually have a large asexual subgroup so some just like the cute art. But a lot of us also like roleplay fantasy and sex.
Thank you for a real answer finally!
To elaborate the fandom is basically a large open and mostly supportive community of neurodivergent people. I don't have a source but i'd wager that over 80% of us are on the autism spectrum. Yeah we are weird, we know, we do not care. Its nice to be able to express yourself more freely through a character or avatar.
Its a persona type thing, where people draw, dress, and act like their characters. Yeah, sexuality often plays a part in art because furry is about freedom of expression. This art may also include depictions of slice of life, violence, memes, ect.
I think there's alot of nsfw because if you're going to pay for or take the time to make art, may as well make it nsfw if you want.
No. People like to dress up as Batman (cosplay). Some people like to have sex while dressed up as Batman.
Is cosplaying sexual? No.
There are multiple vendors selling in Jesus butt plugs. I will allow you to reconsider your opinions
I'll counter with the Catholic religion is full of sexual iconography and myths. It's all sex, always has been.
Going through the released Epstein files there was a picture of a ~20 year old woman prostrating naked in front of a giant image of Jesus. That stuff definitely gets creepy too.
I wonder how many communities I'll be banned from by the end of the day for being honest about things that seem creepy and having it called "transphobia."
Spiders creep me out. Sometimes clowns. People who live at the Renne Faire and never break character? Maybe a little. Millipedes and Centipedes for sure, those are definitely creepy. Some basements when the lights are off. Maybe most basements.
Yeah that mod overstepped. As much as you are abrasive sometimes, I don't think you're transphobic for this opinion. Too bad they mod the powertrippingbastards community when they are a powertripping bastard themselves lol
Consenting adults doing consenting adult things, even if some may think it's creepy, is completely fine and should be allowed and protected. It's ok to think it's creepy IF you aren't attacking others for it and trying to stop them.
All 8 billion of us are never going to like all the same things and agree on all of the same things. It would be nice if we could be honest but not hate and try to change or murder each other. I will never support someone for eating olives, because ick. But also I try to not suggest starting lynch mobs to hunt them all down.
It bugs me a lot when people use false accusations of racism to make someone look bad and themselves look like the victim, because it demeans every real awful thing people live through. Hopefully one day this person realizes that. You can use that as a lie to get people on your side quickly, but it's breaking trust and demeaning the struggles of the people you're claiming to support.
They make lightsaber dildos but I wouldn't consider Star wars a sexual thing.
they make dildos that look like pieces of pie stacked up and ears of corn. neither of those are furry-related.
pointing to any specific dildo design as being inherently weird just isn't a great argument, basically.
I've run into a whole lot of art of sexualized animal-people just browsing default feeds in different places. It certainly seems to have a big component of that. But even without that, putting on costumes and getting together with a lot of other grown adults so you can all pretend your animals is still really weird.
This is actually the least weird part of it, I think haha
Yeah it's a big costume party except your costumes are characters you created and love. It's like a party where everyone dresses as their dnd character.
