This was my experience, too lmao. I went to go watch her videos expecting something like lesbian separatist gender essentialism slop. Instead, I got the most basic feminist critiques of video games, such as the extremist position that women are people and should have agency. Chuds were frothing at the mouth and seething over topics I'm far more radical on.

I didn't engage with Gamergate bullshit because misogynistic men were just being misogynistic. Any time you try and explain something like intersectionality or toxic masculinity, they ignored what you said and went into a rage.

I never watched her stuff but the impression I get from lefty spaces after the fact is that it was simpler and using games as a medium to make a new wave of people ask a few questions about why society is the way it is. I don’t know what tone they were in but I don’t expect anyone who is taking that on to be super condescending about it.

I think that’s a decent goal, and the need for it is kind of epitomized by what the response was.

Same. I hate the word gamer. It’s not an identity, it’s an activity I enjoy doing sometimes.

I wouldn’t say I’m a reader or a theme parker or a movier. I say I enjoy reading, going to theme parks, and watching movies.
