Reddit gold was the beginning of the end. I've seen the cycle before on older forums
It was pretty annoying seeing posts with very little actual activity pushed to the top. I had an app that ignored the reward prioritization though.
Reddit gold was introduced in 2010, only two years after they started letting users create sebreddits.
