I just tried to read about the "mir" part, and from what I can find it has been associated with mirŭ meaning "peace, world".

Does it mean anything like that now, or has it lost it's meaning? Like when I hear the name "Jensen", I just hear the name and don't think "son of Jens".

The meaning is more less lost, but separating the word would usualy still make sense. Bohumír = Bohu + mír Bohu = "to God " Mír = peace

But again almost noone actually separates it or cares about what it meams.
