So I've heard this mentioned by my kid as he complained about the kids in his class, but I never really looked into it.

This is exactly what AI should have been. It should have been a new vector for people to create dumb and ridiculous things, not the brain of our government, not the death of our job market, not a child porn factory, just a neat way to make things that look just a little weird to become the seed of a new genre.

In the early days of stable diffusion, I tried to use it to make a coloring book, using the dumb and inaccurate ways it went about things on purpose to parody the people trying to hide their AI use and the companies that crank out tons and tons of uninspired graphics or stolen work to make money on people wanting to color without thinking. I was going to make a whole series of bad AI coloring books filled with dumb hybrid animals and anothonically fucked up superheros, a curated collection so we could point at the novelty and laugh at the absurdity of a computer making a superhero who's only power is having a 3rd arm on their crotch. Instead I scrapped the whole thing and deleted the material and program. I had concerns about the child superheros coming out too sexualized and before I could figure out how to stop it, AI became the devil of our time.

So much fun dies to capitalism.

Similar story actually. I tried to make an anime colouring book for a young family member with A.I.

It often gave me… disturbing content. I was extremely shocked. I didn't ask for that, it just did it on its own. I accidentally downloaded one of the models which is "nsfw" by mistake; in my defence, it was a very confusing process at the time. Apparently you have to specifically tell it not to make pornography by default.

It also didn't really know what to do with the lines. It often gave me effectively a mutilated "veiny" version of the base image with lines randomly and incohesively all over the place. Just a mess that's impossible to colour in without enough white space.

I whipped up something nice in Photoshop over a few hours instead.
