According to the Inferno (correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while) they're all trapped in ice while the exposed parts are assaulted with frigid winds stirred up by Lucifer's giant wings.

Let me guess, punished for the sin of enjoying life's pleasures while Dante was spending his time in a self enforced penance of avoiding and feeling guilty about things that aren't wrong and accepting punishment that doesn't accomplish anything other than making him feel smug about having a better afterlife that may or may not even exist while those who didn't experience extreme punishments that Dante himself invented all as part of this smug cycle?
I look at it more like an early renaissance rap battle where he owned all his haters and politicians so hard we still read about it today.
