I have a small book at home about the soviet bus stops. Apparently, designing buss stops was usually the first task entrusted to freshly graduated architects. Their unique designs were a result of these young architects trying to establish themselves and present innovative architectural ideas. Unfortunately, it also left quite a few bus stops that were expensive, impractical or difficult to maintain.
Better they waste money on an impractical but rather small bus stop than wasting way more money on a useless residential or commercial building.
If the bus stop is good, the fresh architect has a good reference. If not, his potential customers have a good warning.
our local architectural/engineering program, lately they've been building these little... i don't know what to call them. i know they have a name i was sitting right under the [scan the QR code to learn more about our graduation projects] sign. they look like you take a small shed frame and use the frame but not the rest of the shed. they put a table and swings inside the unroofed unwalled shed i was sitting in last saturday.
i like it particularly because it's not just design. they have to build it themselves too. for the less mechanically gifted in their program, it shows them how easy it is to make [pretty, in this case] yard furniture out of raw lumber.
