Standardized testing is great for math and reading and very basic science.
The criticism is that it makes teachers "teach to the test". And that's very true. But if the kids aren't fucking getting it, that's a problem regardless of whether we have the tests or not. Getting rid of the tests just hides the problem.
It's not too dissimilar from this administration's ideas to kill climate change data.
It sets a minimum standard. Bad teachers teach to the test. Good teachers go above and beyond that. But at least the bad teachers have a minimum standard to meet.
