This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

[Discussion] Which Soulslike will you be playing this weekend and what's the saddest boss fight in a Soulslike? (lemmy.zip)

My internal clock has been utterly derailed by having finished school last week, so I didn't even notice that it's Friday again lol. I don't have any soulslikes on my plate right now - sounding like a broken record at this point - but I've been thinking about trying to get a PS4 emulator running on my PC to give Bloodborne another go. It's been way too long since I've last played it.

I'm not sure if it's the saddest boss in a soulslike, but Romeo from Lies of P is definitely up there. The second playthrough recontextualises many boss fights and this one was just gut wrenching.

What's your pick?

Elden Ring and only Elden Ring, because I suck at souls games

Already beat it twice including dlc, I had to shield poke PCR because PCR movesets suck at least for me but I beat other hard bosses normally, I like fighting Melenia the most followed by Godfrey, currently I'm on late game DLC

I mean using a shield and poke combo for PCR seems to be a rather safe option from what I've heard but beating him is still a challenge in and of its own. Doesn't sound like you're bad at soulslikes at all - give yourself a little more credit!

I couldn't beat Malenia myself no matter how much I tried. My fiancée beat her quite easily one day, funnily enough. She was dead set on beating her one day and she wouldn't want to progress the game further without either me or her having beaten her. Since I wasn't vibing with Elden Ring for a while now at that point (~300h across two characters), I just wasn't interested in playing altogether. One day when I was at school, she just randomly beat her in like two tries. And also with a "legit" build (not that I have any issue with people playing the games like they want to play them - not trying to discredit people's achievements based on their playstyle). Isn't PCR even more difficult?

Love the Godfrey fight tho. It was quite difficult as well but felt manageable overall.

Maybe I'll have to force myself to get back to SotE one day. The game was quite fun to play with summons and made me not want to rip my hair out every time I encountered a boss. The designs are also really cool.

Across the base game and the DLC, who's your favourite boss?

Like I said before I like Melenia the most followed by Godfrey then Radagon (but Elden Beast is baaad) for dlc I like Messmer and Commander Gaius, I play as Fashion Souls which mean I equip what look good on me and doesn't care about armor I also shield poke PCR naked to at least give my self a bit of challenge fighting him, PCR probably 5x harder than Malenia (maybe all of souls games) and a pain in the ass to learn his movesets because he keep flashbang me 2 seconds.
