Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes
This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
[BB] This enemy is so difficult!
or
[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

I just finished my first ever Demon's Souls SL1 run yesterday, so today I'm celebrating with a overpowered Meat Cleaver run for fun. Demon's Souls quickly humbled me though, as it has a tendency to do, since I died more times to Flamelurker on this character than I did my SL1 character (I did have a +4 Crescent Falchion for that fight vs. a +1 for this fight, but still...)
Saddest boss fight in a soulslike is Father Gascoigne. It just breaks my heart every time I see what the music box does to him and then I pick up the red gem afterward, knowing what he did to his family with his monstrous insanity while trying to do good.
I also just finished playing through Bloodborne on PC in 3440x1440 ultrawide with mods, and it was glorious. It's surprisingly easy to get going, and it runs amazingly well - I highly recommend! I will say, though, that every time I play through Bloodborne I like it less. The whole time I just keep thinking "I could be playing Sekiro right now".
Gascoigne and his whole family form such a tragic story. It still hits me in my heart every time…
Also, wtf, how could I forget Father G. when I wrote my comment, and how has no one before you mentioned him? He is such an obvious answer to the question, and many of the commenters, myself included, are massive Bloodborne fans.
Celebrating after a Level 1 run with a high damage run is always fun :)
After I did my SL1 run in Elden Ring, I did an Int/Faith run with the OP ^Sword^ ^of^ ^Night^ ^and^ ^Flame^ and so many busted spells, and I had a blast.
Congrats on beating your SL1 run, and have fun with your Meat Cleaver run.
