This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

My internal clock has been utterly derailed by having finished school last week, so I didn't even notice that it's Friday again lol. I don't have any soulslikes on my plate right now - sounding like a broken record at this point - but I've been thinking about trying to get a PS4 emulator running on my PC to give Bloodborne another go. It's been way too long since I've last played it.

I'm not sure if it's the saddest boss in a soulslike, but Romeo from Lies of P is definitely up there. The second playthrough recontextualises many boss fights and this one was just gut wrenching.

Hopefully some more Sekiro, but I've been really unwell and not doing much of anything so I'll have to see what I have the energy for. John Japansouls will be there whenever I am ready

Saddest boss fights... several people have mentioned great picks already (Solaire and Blaidd in particular), so I'll go with a different one: the fight against Leda and co in Shadow of the Erdtree. Everyone there is suddenly clear-eyed for the first time in ages, and they've found themselves as former friends now irreconcilably at odds. Thiollier and Moore trying to kill each other, Ansbach and Freya trying to kill each other, and the end of the adventuring party you had gotten to know

For a non-soulslike game but certainly soulslike-adjacent-enough that I think it's worth mentioning, Shadow of the Colossus has a couple that really have you feeling like you're probably not the good guy in this story. The 13th and 16th, most notably
