Scrappiest of scrap wood projects.
The proportions are odd, but it's designed to fit under the landing of the stairs going into the garage. Makes a good use of an otherwise awkward space. Like everything else in the shop, it's on casters to allow for easy movement and cleaning around.
Most of this wood was from the big lifting tower I used to get the dust collector motor into place.
That’s some nice scrap wood. My region is so overloaded with Ikea melamine particle board garbage that I only keep two pieces around. On any spontaneous day that I need wood, I can cycle around the neighborhood and find a pile of Ikea discards. Every minute of every day, there is something.
Solid wood would be worth saving but it’s much more scarcely dumped on curbs than Ikea wood.
Not only that but people use to place up fournitures and old stuff salvageable outside, on visible spot, for people needing it when it would be time for heavy trash pick up what would be left would be taken away. Now local authorities have defund heavy trash pick and worked very hard at rebranding this as littering. It start to affect the way people act: now they get rid of trash. Salvageable things mixed with literal rubbishes and broken unfixable stuff.
I recently found out about a local non-profit which collects scrap unused building material. Then it gets stored until someone needs it. You can’t just be a taker though.. they keep track of who gives what so if you give something you then have an allowance to take stuff. It’s a kind of bartering. It works around the hard-ass repair/hobbyist-hostile municipalities like yours.
