What the hell did King of the Hill do wrong?

Hank is a snowflake?

[–] immutable@lemmy.zip 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I like King of the Hill and I've rewatched it a dozen times.

I think the biggest problem with the show is that Hank Hill’s values are rarely challenged with reasonable alternatives. There are a number of episodes where his foil is a somewhat ridiculous straw man.

And so you end up with Hank Hill who is outwardly conservative in his politics but pretty moderate and liberal in his personal views. But he can’t embrace liberal politics because a couple times a season they will throw out some absurd liberal that is failing to parent correctly or live right and reaffirm the correctness of conservativism.

If republicans acted like Hank Hill I’d have not problem with them, but they think they are Hank Hill while being Cotton.

I think they just don't outright spell it out for people but Hank is routinely proven to be wrong and sensitive in his own way. His ideals are constantly rubbed in his face.

He's American, respects freedom, wants conformity so much so he judges others for simply using a different heating source.

He thinks people should handle their shit but is massively insecure.

I can see how people miss it but he's literally the biggest snowflake ever and Bobby who I think is the shows counter to Hank is routinely the toughest cookie in the room. Pretty immune to judgement, confident and largely capable of punching above his weight class in situations most people think he wouldn't

He's one of those kindhearted conservative Christians. Hank Hill never would have voted for Trump!

[–] raze2012@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

He turned on W. Bush because he had a weak handshake. I can't in any realm imagine that Hank supporting Trump.

But then again it seems like the newer seasons try to avoid the wider national politics. Not that the original run did that much to begin with, but it'd do it a few times.

Exactly. Hank's what we wish conservatives were. What they really are hasn't changed, but it's become much harder to delude ourselves.

I mean sorta dale is like directly an antivaxxer

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I could only make it a few episodes in and had to quit when Dale got way too real. I gave up when Hank, who had proven to be a pretty bad father, couldn't get past Bobby successfully following his dream because he didn't use propane.

But Hank does strike me as way too conservative when he practically creamed in his pants at the Bush library and him losing his mind because the city made the intersections safer...by changing what Hank was used to

"He's from New York Peggy.."

His stance on propane and propane accessories contributed to global warming.
