MODERATORS

As part of the devs farewell message on their site, they have included malicious code to make each visitor sends 2,000 requests to the dbzer0 servers in an attempt to DDOS and take the instance offline.

I want to hear from some former Tesseract users/users of tesseract instances, has your experience seriously changed in the last few days?

I used tesseract as my daily driver for lemmy, and honestly, it was and is the best lemmy interface I've used, at least in terms of the tools it had to make admin and moderation tasks easier.

But we were also running an older version and hadn't upgraded to the version with the blocks, or otherwise, we'd have been in the same boat as db0, because we were one of the instances blocked by the list

I switched to Photon so... a little, I guess?

Ok, but are you noticing a bunch of new content and users now?

Not really, but if my circumstances were different I would have. I've been super busy so I've been a very casual user lately. For me, that means mostly using my phone where I use Voyager. I also bounce back and forth between Lemmy and Piefed. I knew something was wrong with Tesseract but I couldn't figure out what it was. I wrote a comment about it in a deleted thread that I'll quote here. This is in response to AdmiralPatrick asking rhetorically if they should have been more up front:

As someone who's used Tesseract for years, it would've been nice. You said elsewhere that no one else had complained but I had no idea what was going on. I use Voyager on my phone and I had notifications showing up there that were absent in Tesseract. I had comments I'd made from my phone that I couldn't see from my browser. And, like, comments about the World Cup. Does Tesseract hate football? Sports in general? I had no idea that there was a new semi-secret blocklist and that someone else in that comment chain had committed some unknown-to-me sin elsewhere so I couldn't continue that discussion with others from my laptop. I ended up keeping a second Lemmy-UI tab open because, as much as I love it, I couldn't trust Tesseract until this mysterious problem was resolved. Not a great experience.
