I got up this morning and thought "I need a coffee". I'm not interested in pour overs, I want that shit ready when I get up. Are people still doing drip coffee makers in 2026? Or are they all bullshit machines full of vendor lockin?

I use my drip coffee maker most of the time. Got it for like $5 from goodwill, works great. It’s just my wife and me drinking it and she almost exclusively drinks cold coffee so I’ll just make a full pot, take a cup, and put the rest in a pitcher in the fridge.

My only issue with a drip coffee pot is that if you don’t turn the heat off once it’s done brewing it will burn it to shit. My parents have one with an insulated carafe which turns the heat off when it’s done and it rules. Perfect coffee every time.

I also have a French press I’ll use if I just want one or am feeling picky about the quality, I do think it comes out better from the French press but it only makes two cups instead of like 10.

I’ve also made a deliberate effort to make sure I never set my bar for acceptable coffee too high.

I have some nicer beans for a little treat every once in a while but I mostly use store brand pre-ground coffee because I never want to be in a situation where there’s coffee available but it’s too shitty and I won’t drink it. I want to be able to drink shitty conference coffee at 6am if I need to.

I also really like the Mango Green Tea Celsius. Delicious and has like 3 cups of coffee worth of caffeine in it. My caffeine consumption is down now but when I was commuting 3 hours round trip each day I was drinking like 400mg a day
