From what I’ve read the newer ones charge more easily and last longer in the cold than older ones did. I’d love to hear from someone with some experience though. I don’t know how many Hexbears are running around with newish Chinese EVs in cold climates for comparison though.
New ones are equipped with heat pumps to efficiently keep the battery at temp, but the battery is the thing powering the heat pump and heat pumps are a lot worse at heating than cooling.
Regardless, EVs don't uniquely suck in the cold. ICE engines also lose a bunch of efficiency and range in cold weather, that's just the name of the game.
