Honestly not sure, the US seems to be one of the only countries to think decapitation strikes work. That's why they do them so much, and Trump might believe it too. Then again, we know he's hamming up how unreasonable Iran is (they have been incredibly restrained), so you might be right!
They do an enormous amount of projecting, so maybe it is "Great Man Theory" at work, and to acknowledge it doesn't work would require the admission of being wrong, and might even threaten their world view of Capitalism being "eternal and right! Law of the jungle baby, survival of the fittest!" (with the irony that they aren't fit, just sitting on a stolen hoard)
Yep, it's self a destructive.
