OK fuck Pete, but nowhere in his statement does he say he's honoring the people from that battle.
What he said was it's settled history, so we're not going back and revising things long after the fact. This isn't FIFA, after all.
History is often revisited and re-evaluated in a contemporary context. That's why Biden removed many confederate statues because they were frankly embarrassing, and is very relevant to what happened here.
History is the collective and you're welcome to revisit that. I'll help and probably agree with most of what you write about that.
But these medals? That's not history. That's individual sacrifice, and those are earned independent of whatever asshole is in charge at the time. We shouldn't be messing with those.
