Aren't these like a very popular accessory?

[–] kn33@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That's much less reliable tbh

I've used it on a motorcycle attachment for a long trip before. The same pop socket was then attached to a new phone and used for another 2 years. Maybe I lucked out with that model or it just sticks to flat cases better.

The idea of having my phone exposed while riding a motorcycle is freaking me out. Like... My hands got sweaty after reading that.

You can get cases that cover the phone completely, like a bag with a clear plastic front. And you can use the screen through them, it's made of a material similar to a soft screen protector.

It's not that. My brain would just be screaming at me that "IT'S GOING TO FALL OFF" the entire time. The phone could be welded to the bike and it would still probably happen.

I have a nice attachment. It's got shock absorbing shit and everything.

I also have waterproof saddlebags if it decides to rain, but I'm usually good at interpreting the weather.

I completely understand. Before this I actually taped my phone below the motorcycle dash which was scarier because I had to reuse the tape again on the way back and it was coming off. I think it was a Note 2 at the time and those things were huge.

Experience or feeling? I've had three or four over the last 10 years, the plastic starts disintegrating from constant use after a couple years, while the adhesive still sticks (and all that while being repositionable and reusable, I've swapped cases but kept the pop socket), so can't relate tbh

As are other more structurally sound models.

Suction cups don't hold for long.

Unless you are very unlucky when you accidentally Thwap! one on your forehead. Uncle Stu had a perfectly round hickey on his forehead for like two weeks.

They are applied with an adhesive strip, not suction cup.
