Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.

Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.

Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.

Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.

Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.

Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

At this point just buy a portable AC if you want it so badly. Yes they are mostly single hose units which are less efficient. But so what? The extra power bill is nothing to hotel tickets.
Sure, if you’re somewhere like the US which has heavily subsidised energy bills, but electricity is twice the cost in Britain. Then you’d need to replace your windows to accommodate the AC. You’d have to find somewhere that sells them too.
Sure AC units are largely out of stock, this week. Buy one when they are available again over the following months. If you are only cooling a single room instead of an entire house (similar applies to heating tbh) the costs are not that high either.
I don't know how it is in the UK currently, but here in the NL there aren't any ACs in stock anywhere. They're all sold out.
True to a degree that is an issue too. I really need to get a window net so I can open the windows without letting the cat out. A powerful fan might also be useful as my current fan is getting old and a bit shit, bearings are probably a bit fucked.
I recommend getting some window restrictors rather than messing about with netting. There is a company called Beego that makes them, they are meant for kids but are perfect for cats too. I use them and recommended them to my friends with house cats, they use them now and it's so much more convenient than using netting.

That seems like more enough space for a cat to get out. And if you make the opening even smaller you might as well keep the window closed.
It may seem that way from a picture that it's enough space for a cat to get out, but I'm telling you from experience it isn't! Purely a recommendation based on myself having two house cats and using these on 6 different windows in my house, and a variety of friends having used them with their cats too.
Not sure about the UK but in mainland Europe our windows can already be put into "tilt", though usually horizontally. But it's still not save for cats.
don't you need nets for mosquitos anyway?
We have mosquitoes, but have eradicated malaria so it’s not a standard thing to have nets.
They're not really a thing where I've lived in the UK, at least I've not seen them in the 35+ years I've lived in the country! I wonder if climate change will affect that eventually?
We have them, they just don’t carry lethal diseases.
Best time to buy ac is in winter.
I suppose if you haven't planned for the heat, and then ac units are all sold out everywhere, a hotel is an option
If you have nobody in your community with AC who will help. Holy shit this is bleak.
