I think "Roseanne" the TV series is an interesting one, since it's a "What If" that happened.
The original "Roseanne" aired in the 90s and was an excellent show about a working class American family. It aired for 9 seasons, but the final 9th season was weird because the working class family won the lottery and lost the plot. In the finale it turns out the whole last season was a "What If" of what the main character, Roseanne, wished had happened. Her husband Dan having died.
Then we get a reboot season that ignores the 9th season. But at this point the actress who plays "Roseanne" is publicly a crazy racist and gets the show cancelled.
But! Now Roseanne dies in the series and Dan lives. The show once again tells the story of middle class America and has success as the rebranded "Conners" for 7 seasons.
What if they did a real original season 9? What if they didn't retcon the 9th season in the finale? What if they didn't retcon all of season 9? What if Roseanne wasn't a crazy racist? What if they just cancelled the show?
