We learn something new every day. This is a community dedicated to informing each other and helping to spread knowledge.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must begin with TIL. Linking to a source of info is optional, but highly recommended as it helps to spark discussion.

** Posts must be about an actual fact that you have learned, but it doesn't matter if you learned it today. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.**

Rule 2- Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your post subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding non-TIL posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-TIL posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

For further explanation, clarification and feedback about this rule, you may follow this link.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

I don't know what a "blood boy" is and I don't want to know.

I am going to bed now

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 54 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Thiel seems like the kind of psycho that 100% believes that getting transfusions of blood from younger, hotter people will make him young and hot.

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He might actually be the most frightening individual that walks the earth in terms of insanity with influence and power, and I fully realize the gravity of that sentence

If it makes you feel any better he also strikes me as the panicky stupid type, y'know the type that thinks they're super smart cool and collected but collapse like soaked cardboard when a car backfires. Wait no that actually probably makes it worse on a moment to moment basis, upside is whatever plans he does have probably would die pretty violently on first contact.

Well it certainly does help rejuvenate mice. "Replacing plasma of old mice with saline and albumin from young mice was sufficient to rejuvenate brain, liver, and muscle."

[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Damn, now I want some young mouse blood in my veins

[–] plutopos@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

that's how you become rat-man

[–] defuse959@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 21 hours ago

Please continue. I’m interested.

[–] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 day ago

That's a very cruel way to explain what having a blood boy is. They don't think that. They just think it will keep them young and hot long enough for them to see technology advance to a more sophisticated solution.

[–] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 1 day ago (3 children)

It's not as bad as you think. Its just the young man a rich older man pays to live a cloistered life and occasionally give blood to the older man in the belief that it will slow or reverse aging.

They don't bathe in it or anything.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

occasionally

Yeah gonna doubt that one. Was probably at least once a day.

[–] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 17 hours ago

Two or three times a day. Like with meals. Nothing excessive. Don't be dramatic.

[–] Prior_Industry@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

No, just inject it into their veins 😂

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I mean, they do bathe in it, it's just not a key part of the blood boy process. More a, "why not, we have all this poor people blood already?"

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 41 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Listen, here's the thing. If you can't spot the blood boy in the first half hour at the table, then you ARE the blood boy."

[–] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

No, I'm over 25 and have breasts.

The second movie was better. I couldn't stand the fast-forwarding in Fury Road.

[–] Alenalda@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I liked the story, but I can't stand these movies that are 100% green screened and seem to take place in a perpetual dust storm.

[–] Flamekebab@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

You think Fury Road was primarily green screened?

The majority of what was done was compositing. The stunts, props, etc. were real. The crashing war rig was real, for example.

It's one of the things I thinks makes Furiosa worse - much less practical.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Doof Warrior’s flamethrower guitar is also a fully functioning prop 🤘

[–] Flagstaff@programming.dev 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Doof Warrior

Wait... that's what he was called?!

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 1 points 20 hours ago

From the creative mind that gave us Master Blaster, Lord Humungus, Rictus Erectus, Scabrous Scrotus, The People Eater, Toecutter, and of course, the profoundly inspired “Dog”.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I hear you, but the best way to learn about this is by watching Silicone Valley. While depressing facts like the existence of blood boys are revealed, the show is net worth it.

[–] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

That was the show with the blood boy smoking weed?

[–] 5wim@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 day ago

Silicone Valley lolo

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

think vampires. and you can fill in the rest.
