There is a shockingly high percentage of homeowners who sincerely believe that renters should have fewer rights. The most common seem to be that they shouldn't get to vote in local elections and that they shouldn't be allowed to park their cars on public streets.
Feudalism 101
Also keep in mind that many people rent for much of or all of their lives, even if they remain in the same area.
renters are second class citizens in the USA, for sure.
not owning a home is considered a failure, like not going to college, or not being rich.
