I don't get it, why is Lemmy obsessed with tech company layoffs?
Why are people, who populate the mainstream forward edge of the tech to regain collective ownership of online public spaces, "obsessed" with tech company layoffs? Why are all of these people, maybe a majority of them currently or formerly employed by that industry, following that industry? Is that your question, friend?
yeah, who gives a shit, if you work for an ultra mega corp expect to be treated like cattle, not sure who I should feel sorry for in this situation
Most of the time they're not firing everyone from one department with one singular type of role
Also, welcome to the job market? there's plenty of people caught out in plenty of boom and bust cycle roles
3 companies own everything. Small, decent teams get acquired by said garbage each day. Many individual workers don't have the choice practically.
I imagine you'll grow some empathy when the VCs start to target what you do and acquire all the small-medium businesses in the ignorant asshole industry.
Maybe because they keep happening?
who gives a shit? do you work for them? no? then why do you care?
You're right, there's absolutely nothing to be concerned about when entire communities lose their income while a small handful of elites grow in power. It definitely doesn't affect me if I'm not one of those workers, right? Surely the entire thing just stops right there and doesn't cause any damage to the economy, right? That's what our great, infallible unemployment benefits in this country are for, right?
Right?
Are you saying these uber rich elites who live in San Fran are unable to find other jobs? That once they no longer work at INSERT_MEGA_CORP_HERE they are unemployable?
I can understand if someone who worked for them was unhappy but if you don't... welcome to the economy? People are hired and fired for a variety of reasons every day, feels weird to pick out one particular business and go you can't fire people, you can only hire or even... what do you expect them to do? just never fire anyone? never restructure?
"Elites" don't get laid off. Who are you even talking about right now?
Brother they are making top 0.1% in the world pay and after being let go they are being paid out more money than 99.9% of the world makes
They are working ultralong hours for a super massive megacorp in America for the big $$$, this isn't some little guy who they hired off the street making minimum wage who is being kicked out and will now struggle to feed his family
You guys are so far up your own arses you're standing up for people who wouldn't look at you twice
