Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The standard is bad parents, hatred for society and school (honestly normal for many teens/adolescents, esp if bullied), echo chambers that reinforce the hatred (abnormal), easy access to guns (abnormal but often concurrent with bad parents and ofc the US).
This is of course an oversimplification and not every shooter has all of these but there's been more than enough occurences by this point to know what the majority "reasons" are. The two ways for society to fix this would be to make gun ownership more difficult, and to have parents positively involved with their children.
Republicans dont want to do anything to limit guns until its the "other side" that has them see the lack of anything in the multiple events since Columbine including Uvalde vs Regan as CA governor and Black Panthers having AKs. And in our stage of capitalism the companies do not care about parents spending time with their kids and the unions are weak (though theres been some recent limited improvements there).
Thanks for the explanation, I was thinking along those lines that the kid hated school and maybe he's been bullied but I didn't think about echo chambers
It doesn't invite eugenics; it is eugenics.
The problem with such requirements is that it's extremely easy to abuse them.
Take voting tests. It sounds like a good idea on paper to require people know how the government works and the candidate platforms before being able to vote.
But all it takes is a few ambiguous questions to give the person grading it the ability to deny you based on skin color or other demographics, as we've seen in the past.
Adoption is a great example of this. There are some wonderful people who adopt. Then there’s my adoptive parents. On paper, an absolute dream. Everything data and statistics and psychology would lead you to think would be the foundation of a stable, economically viable, well adjusted, healthy, mindful, moral environment.
I met my bio mom and the half-siblings she’d had later and raised when I was 40. She’s had her ups and downs through her life; addictions, on her 4th marriage. But that family is loving and a “family” in spite of all their struggles. When I reappeared it was just “oh, hey, you, welcome back!”. The perfect on paper parents; emotionally, physically, and sexually abusive behind closed doors but shielded by their social standing even when it leaked out. I haven’t spoken to them in two decades and wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire. I hope they die alone.
The idea that “worthiness” could ever be determined by metrics is a joke. They should have been worthy, but then they got the chance and exposed why “on paper” does not match “in flesh”.
🤗, genuinely, from the depth of my heart, I appreciate that someone who just reads my experience has the capacity to care. Thats why I am a disappointed optimist and not a nihilist.
Oh, yeah, that won't be a problem at all. You want MAGA deciding who gets to have kids, and who doesn't? What if they determine someone is "underbabied," and they are ordered to breed? What if someone gets pregnant who isn't licenced?
This is absolutely trying to solve the problem from the wrong end.
My toddler is hitting other toddlers, so, et's bind their arms? No, let's understand why this is happening and help them understand and learn to manage their emotions.
