Whether it be electronics, automobiles or medical equipment, the manufacturers should not be able to horde “oem” parts, render your stuff useless if you repair it with aftermarket parts, or hide schematics of their products.

In response to your edit, that's like saying mass surveillance is caused by terrorism and child molesters, since those are the two most common scapegoats used to justify warrantless, dragnet surverillance.
We shouldn't be forming arguments based on the enemy's terms, because that gives their bullshit arguments a sense of legitimacy.
