World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

As a Christian in faith. I believe the bible needs to fade into obscurity. We need a new narrative that defines the sense of love, compassion & spiritual growth we seek. Fuck the dogma & the original sin idea that has been used to oppress and strike fear into peoples hearts and minds. Fear of god is spiritual abuse. That is what Christianity teaches right out of the gate. 🤦
If it’s possible to just retcon all of the shit that makes up the foundation of your religion and create a “new narrative” doesn’t that just prove that it’s all made up bullshit? Like isn’t faith by its very nature “blind” and the fact that you assert that you can reshape it to your tastes just means that you don’t actually believe in this as much as you think you do?
Of course it’s all made up. Is it the divine word? Well then we have to assume that there is in fact a divine being. I’m not too sure of that one way or another. I don’t try to prove it or not prove its existence. The made by human scripture is a collection of stories, tales and fables from a long bygone era. Now how we choose to perceive and apply those lessons are fully upon us. Some use it as a guideline for daily living down to how one dress and what type of diet one may consume. Others, not so rigid may take it for simply the message of Jesus (Grace, redemption, forgiveness, acceptance, calling out corruption in the name of god, empathy, being a steward of the earth) He is only in the thing for the first half of the Pt.2 section of the script btw.
It’s okay to let go of the label and just come to terms with the fact that you have good values, you know?
In one comment you chastise for believing and not taking responsibility, and in this comment you chastise for still believing while trying to fix things. Is it safe to assume that anyone who finds religious creeds acceptable is inferior to you
I guess what I am saying is that there has to be some type of reckoning day regarding this matter. So many people have cherry picked the bible into a grotesque monster of a religion with all sorts of negative implications branching into the government at the deepest level. Meanwhile, there are a multitude of individuals that have some virtuous values, a respect and responsibility of community but aren’t willing to rock the boat when it comes to saying, absolutely not in our name. And you have some that are opposing the bastardized versions. It has changed so much since I was a child (mid 1970’s). Unfortunately those that cherry pick and choose “The Good Stuff”, are labeled heretics. I am talking evangelical mega church super faith based as opposed to gray haired aging hippie NPR listening Unitarians. One side is happy is thrilled LGBTQ is attempting to be made obscene. The other has a 🌈 flag and says welcome all. I’m with the latter congregation. I just believe that we need a new story. We don’t have to forget the last one.
