Love is overly broad to the point of being almost meaningless. But I like to think of the broad concept as a deep appreciation for someone or something.
We also talk about live in two broad ways: first to describe of relationship and second to describe a feeling. I don’t think talking about romantic or platonic love as a way to describe a relationship makes much sense outside of just saying that the people in that relationship experience those emotions, which is a pretty low bar.
I think of it like this. You have romantic attraction and sexual attraction, which are both feelings, and then you have attachment, which is more involved system in your brain. Any relationship which lasts long enough will have the feelings of attraction come and go. But attachment is very sustainable to grow long-term.
I think this framing is at least adjacent to scientific models of love and attraction while still being accessible and not denying the existence of aroace people. And of course, aroace people still have needs for attachment and intimacy just like anyone else, so none of these things are without overlap.
