President Donald Trump said “yeah, I probably will,” when asked whether he would consider pulling U.S. troops from Italy and Spain.
“Why shouldn't I? Italy has not been of any help to us and Spain has been horrible. Absolutely horrible,” he replied, doubling down on his argument that NATO allies have not supported the U.S. during the Iran war.
“We helped them [Europe] with Ukraine… but when we needed them, they were not there. We have to remember that.”
As of December 2025, there were 12,662 U.S. active-duty personnel stationed in Italy and 3,814 in Spain, according to data from the U.S. Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC).
While Spain has yet to respond to Trump mulling over the troops, Italy’s Defense Minister Guido Crosetto has pushed back.
“I wouldn't understand the reasons behind it. As is clear to anyone, we haven't used the Strait of Hormuz. And we've even offered to carry out a mission to protect shipping—a gesture that, incidentally, was greatly appreciated by the U.S. military,” he told Italian ANSA news agency.
I hope Americans are just straight up embarrassed by this ignorant fool they decided was worthy of being their leader.
But they voted him in twice. I guess they want this.
A lot of us are, sadly it appears not enough are
To say American politics is fucked is and understatement. Majority of eligible voters did not vote. So despite conservatives always being bottom of public polls and surveys, conservative voters are more consistent voters. With younger generations being disenfranchised and working class voters often unable to get time off work to go vote as other western democracies do to ensure maximum participation. But you can bet conservatives will ensure every nursing home will have a polling station where the elderly can cast a ballot
The majority of American think he’s a disgusting moron. We just have a shitty system.
can't really claim a shitty system when the majority of people who claim to hate trump, just decided to stay home instead of voting
There's no indication that was the case. Most people who hate trump didn't vote? What's your evidence for that?
sauce
I am making the generous assumption that most of those above didn't like trump or, worst case scenario, did not like him enough
In any case, most of those just couldn't be bothered to carry out the simplest, most impactful, civil duty
I'm aware of how many people didn't vote. That wasn't the part I was questioning, and as you noted, you made an assumption that it was mainly people who don't support Trump. In some countries, people are required to vote. And also, they make it easier to do so. There's no reason anyone should have to take time off from work or stand in line for 5 hours to vote.
well if I make the opposite assumption or assume nothing at all, the conclusion is worse: "considering their vote, most Americans like trump and wanted a second term of misery for all"
My perception is that people who are too indifferent to vote are generally uninformed and uneducated, meaning they would probably vote for Trump.
that could perfectly be the case, which then implies the majority of voting age Americans wanted the misery we are all living through… which is a worse scenario than the one I pointed earlier
The problem is they're too clueless to understand that Trump being in office would cause such problems.
The majority of Americans (~60%) at least somewhat dislike Trump given his approval rating, but how many of those feel the same about the rot within American society that he rode to power? For example, anyone who's mad at Uncommitted (or, even worse, post-Oct 7th Gaza protesters) might as well be MAGA, just with less tolerance for consequences. Combining overt fascists, party hacks only opposing him because he's red rather than blue and people who just wish leopards would stop eating their faces you'd get a pretty handy majority.
