Other similar fun fact: a significant amount of coal comes from the time between when trees evolved and fungi evolved the ability to breakdown wood.

One hope I have for Earth's far-future is bacteria will evolve that can eat plastic. Humans may wipe out all each other and all other life on the planet, but nature will heal after we're gone. New life forms and ecosystems will emerge. After millions of years, they may even research our civilization the way we research dinosaurs.
