I'm a huge fan of Colbert from The Daily Show and from The Colbert Report. I agree that his shift on Late Night is a huge shift. I definitely watched a lot less Colbert when he first moved to Late Night.
However I started watching Late Nite with Colbert regularly around the time COVID started. Maybe he changed his style when COVID started. Maybe he just finally got into the right groove. Maybe I just started appreciating him more. I'm a huge fan of the current Colbert. His show disappearing in a month is going to leave a huge gap.
I'm a huge fan of his monologue. I'm a huge fan of Meanwhile. I'm a huge fan of his interviews. I'm a huge fan of the Colbert Questionnaire.
Maybe the talk show format isn't for some people, but I'm fan.
I think it probably speaks more to older generations. Those that grew up watching Carson etc. Anyone born this century, never really experienced these shows and formats at the height of their relevance to culture. Similar could be said for daytime talk shows. There's still a few. They keep Maury animated these days. And springer's security still has his show I think. There's even one or two new ones. But nothing like the 80s an early 90s.
