I'm confused, and it's about an admittedly meta topic:

While we seem to agree in spirit, and while we differ in our experiences here I don't see any strict ideological differences. But 40 minutes ago, when this discussion was entirely about your interaction with Remon, you banned me because I am a "Zionist Defender"

While I'm very much in support of the rules being applied equitably, you yourself have said that you don't think the admins are necessarily 100% outright zionists and have had a very civil discussion about the topic.

So... where was I defending zionists? And is that really an example of applying the rules equitably?

I admit it is not a clear but you are defending lemmy.world who allow zionist propaganda to spread

Did I? Fifty seven minutes ago (as of writing), I said you were behaving like an ass. A minute later you banned me from a community I have never heard of.

For clarity: I don't love the recent behavior I have seen from the .world admins, but I have not seen the rampantly overt zionist behavior everyone tells me is obvious. I take zionism pretty seriously (the IDF scraped out my babysitter's spine with a bulldozer - and then they flipped her over, so she'd bleed out instead of a quicker death from drowning in her own blood. That sort of thing gives you a complex) but I am also extremely hesitant to accept "everyone knows" as justification for purity tests - I have seen Israel use that kind of rhetoric far too effectively to divide groups.

If "No, you were both generally acting like dipshits, you had it coming, you started it, this has nothing to do with you being an antizionist, move on" is the bar to be considered "defending zionists", I don't particularly want to participate in your community anyways.

But if, as the timing really suggests, this is retaliatory because I did not agree with you - then you are doing of the exact kind of personal-feeling-based enforcement you have accused the .world admins of.

That ban reason seems very unfair based on your comment history.

I agree with you (and I think so would db0), that Mr Kaplan does not seem to be a zionist, and was undeserving of the "zionazi" label. When folks equate what lemmy world mods/admins do with what actual zionists do (all the murdering and genocide), they are making a totally false equivalence. All that the lemmy world admins are "guilty" of being imo are centrist liberals. And that is not sufficient grounds to call them nazis or zionists, at least in the majority of cases.

In fact, since we brought in the no-zionism rule, we've only had to ban a handful of people for zionism. The fact is that most lemmy users are very anti-zionist, even on lemmy.world.

But there is certainly a pattern of moderation with certain LW mods where they will treat those who oppose genocide as somehow worse than those who commit it, simply because they use "extremist" rhetoric. And as though calling for vile killers to be killed makes everyone equally bad.
