comrade @Riverside@reddthat.com here isn't the slop, it's the comments. I mean regardless of what they think of us, this is sad lol

there was so much "Y'all must be cosplaying." crap that was tolerated from blahaj, it was insane.

oh yea, we were bending over backwards to accommodate them and they continued to spit in our face

To me, it was shockingly disrespectful because I am one of the only long term straight users that hasn't been banned lol, and I can tell you with great certainty, after years of posting, that the reason that the community is the way it is and operates the way it operates is because the majority of the modding team that actually controls the culture here are LGBT.

Yeah, the leftist anarchist and communist tendencies has abit to do with it, but a leftist instance run by mostly straight people would look completely different. It would look far more like r/chapotraphouse did. And while there are still elements of that culture that hang around, the idea that this place doesn't have its own culture that isn't specifically informed by the LGBT online experience is extremely funny.

It is because I post in this space that I can just fit in with young queer people irl. A real testament.

ecause I am one of the only long term straight users that hasn't been banned

Wut

Is there anything to back this up?

That I am straight (trust me I am?) or that I have been here an extremely long time and haven't been banned (yet)?

Usually an old-head will have a crash-out over something or another, get themselves banned for abit, then come back pissed about it, and just get banned again. Some just leave. And some, I assume, account hop which makes profile recognition extremely difficult, unless someone had an extremely specific posting style (ala SevenDeadlySins or BlackMoldFutures).

Otherwise, this shit is a vibes based analysis, I don't have numbers. As the kids would say, this is unc telling stories.

I suppose I don't think about the sexuality of other users very often. To have the idea that you are one of the only long term straight users to not be banned seems strange to me i guess.

I know we had a demographics survey at one point. Was the percentage of users who reported themselves as straight that small?

it's been a while but like a third of the site was hetero (ew catgirl-disgust)

also @TreadOnMe@hexbear.net our accounts are only a few days apart in age! Just a couple of yells-at-cloud amongst all the whippersnappers catgirl-happy

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

Lol I got the ratio mixed up. I remember it being extremely high, but I didn't realize I was actually in the minority (which who cares).

For real, that r/chapotraphouse quarantine really spooked alot of us lol.

If I am remembering the demographic survey, which is all self reported btw, so about as horseshit as my analysis from a scientific perspective, I think we had about double the national reported average (though that also keeps increasing every year) so think about 20-30% of the community, which is extremely high in a community that isn't explicitly about that identity.

And my thing is more how prolific and involved the queer community on hexbear is in its moderation and makeup, and that they tend to stick around and post for a long time. Literally, a major strain of reoccurring moderation policy is called (half-joking but still applied seriously) TransComrade69 (TC69) thought, even though TC69 had multiple crashouts before leaving the site entirely.

The closest thing to a real deviation from that is the news mega, but even they still abide by the rules as they are set up.

I watched Ada help chase off a blahaj mod of their libertyhub comm, who then left lemmy altogether unsurprisingly, because of grail and another account. Only for those same users to start doing the same to others.

For someone who loves to say they are there to protect the community, really do a terrible job of it
