I remember vividly all the "Hexbear is only claiming to be trans so I will misgender them constantly" posts that were spun in their little 196 chaser haven.
Yeah, I wasn’t there for the defed but I know enough to know this is bullshit. We agreed not to refederate a while back because we felt like it would make our trans community unsafe. But hey, that’s just the difference between a liberal trans instance and a “authoritarian” left unity instance.
If I recall correctly it was mostly our trans community who felt unsafe and wanted to defed. So basically they're mad that when our trans community felt unsafe, we responded accordingly. They're mad that we actually cared about what our trans community members wanted.
A year or so ago Ada reached out to us trans mods about wanting to set up a trans surgery comm to fill in the void left by the Reddit comm getting shut down. Her priority was based on maximizing traffic while we advocated for a walled off garden approach where we would vet people through our main instance for an extra level of safety and privacy. But her priority isn’t safety, it’s always been about clout for her.
She left that chat when I told her we already provide a safe space for trans folk and if she didn’t feel the same way she needed to reevaluate who she lets in to her own instance.
