Fediverse vs Disinformation

2126 readers
67 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

Killing thousands of protesters is pretty disgusting, doesnt matter if its 300, 3000 or 30,000. The only reason to debate the numbers is to muddy the water. This person seems like they put all their efforts into sweeping for authoritarian regimes as long as they're against the US.

Yes, I agree, except I'd say 30,000 would definitely be worse than 300, ngl. But grossly inflating the number of protestors killed simply makes it easier for Trump to justify the indiscriminate bombing of Iran. It's just too convenient. And since when did dropping bombs and wiping out critical infrastructure ever help the people living there? The Iranian regime deserves little sympathy, but the millions of people who live there do. They are suffering even more now, thanks to western "intervention". The reason for posting this was simply to show it as a typical way in which consent for an unjust war is manufactured, similar to the WMDs of the Bush era.

It is interesting that trump claims the usa sent weapons to Iranian dissidents https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/4/6/trump-says-us-armed-iranian-dissidents-via-kurds-kurdish-groups-deny-claim

It is unclear if this is true, or just more usa blather and zone flooding. If it is though, it does cast the crack down in new light (not saying it's good but obviously most governments start shooting foreign armed rebels pretty readily).
