OOTL what are tankies?
It's just a pejorative for Marxist-leninists/communists/"authoritarian communists".
The lemmy platform was built by communists, and there's a couple of active instances of communists on lemmy.
Just a slur that the right uses against real leftists rather than larping liberals.
Someone who's so anti America, whether justified or not, that they make the mistake of thinking anything the US likes is bad and anything it dislikes is good. Hence, its rivals can do no wrong.
i've heard so many takes on defining what a tankie is, and i gotta give it to you, this one's the worst, yet.
I could always be less charitable if you'd like and say it's someone who dislikes dissent against authoritarian leaders and simps for dictators.
communist because u want a commune = communist
communist because u want tanks and gulag = tankie
The "Communist Manifesto" was written by the guy who said "We have no compassion and we ask no compassion from you. When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror."
A non-marxist who just wanted a commune would be something like a Utopian Communalist, or something like that.
Red Fascists, basically.
They only want authoritarianism and violence. Check out meanwhileongrad for examples of their extremism, which is fully supported by the developers of lemmy.
Living rent-free in your mind. Kudos on your dedication to your community, but your time may be better spent on a different hobby. Maybe try reading "tankie" theory?
Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works
