I don't think they can be called space nerds if they call people "the least intelligent members of a community" for making a post comprised of literally nothing but objectively true information.

These people are not nerds. Nerds have passion for their favored subject. These people are instead actively hostile to knowing about milestones in space if they are not the achievements of their team. They are fans, comparable to medal counting nationalists who do not spare a single thought for any of the sports outside an olymic tally. That is why this meme is almost precision engineered to rile them up.
