There's some sort of constructed social reality that surrounds popular democratic politicians. Like a halo of consultants, orbiting the politician, going beyond being a yes-man but actively encouraging delusion and shielding them from any negativity. Truley Potemkin village shit. Some psychologist should embed themselves amongst them and do a study.
