How common is this? How much of this conversation is actual communication vs just a string of triggering phrases that we react to?

How much of Lemmy is people just barking at their own echo?

This is just obscurantist language, like Spinoza calling the material universe God. That is not what anyone using the term means outside of extreme edge cases.

I live in the US. My cultural context is evangelical Christian fascism.

If your idea of “magic” doesn’t entail the belief in the supernatural, fine, I don’t really have a problem with it, but that’s not what barely anyone means. Unless they’re talking about copperfield.
