Very common among libs who think of themselves as rational politicos. Many fully believe that the conflict between the zionists and the indigenous people is because of some genetic flaw in these lesser races, if they don't just accept 'Issac and Ishmael' nonsense like the west wing taught them after 9/11. The reframing of this conflict as a """"religious"""" conflict is usually by white, western liberals who are too smug to admit they have no clue what they are talking about, and instead find solace in racism against the "barbarians". It's unfortunately very common with them.
This has been a strategy of the European right for a very long time. "We are not racist, we are anti-Islam." It got huge with the war and mass displacement in Syria.
It's very telling that Muslim = Arab to them even though 80%+ of Muslims are non-Arab
