Whether it be electronics, automobiles or medical equipment, the manufacturers should not be able to horde “oem” parts, render your stuff useless if you repair it with aftermarket parts, or hide schematics of their products.

New batteries available at just 90% of the price of a new console. Oh, sorry. You have the version 1.3 console, we only still make batteries for the 1.4 console and above.
Well that's a bit pessimistic. The optimistic take is that third party companies produce cheaper batteries.
That is optimistic.
There doesn't seem to be anything in the EU regulations about DRM on batteries, so there's almost certainly going to be a chip on there with a code embedded in it.
The realistic take is that nintendo will send out an update that bricks all devices with 3rd party batteries.
