(The only) problem with this: The drone hit the weapons rack.

Ergo each individual rocket and missile needs a separate cage.

Precisely. Space is the ultimate high ground. Once the cage tower is high enough that it can be dangled from a geosynchronous orbital platform the defense will be impenetrable.
