There needs to be a hard push for electoral reform (will it ever happen? am I being naive?) First past the post needs to be replaced if we ever really want a truer form of democracy. Voting for a party because you despise the leader of the other one, is a horrible way of governing. It's nice to see a dipper speaking the good word, but I don't see the NDP making any true progress under a FPP system.
I think one thinf Lewis said is that during the first minority gov't where the NDP holds the balance of power they'll make one demand - electoral reform - and won't let up on it. Cause delivering more for people hinges on acquiring political power and as you said, FPTP isn't helping the NDP in this regard.
I'm generally an NDP voter and have been most of my adult life but I had to vote Liberal in the last Federal Election because the threat of Trump winning a few months earlier and having Poilievre as our PM with the absolute clown show south of us is a risk I was unwilling to take.
I'd love nothing more than to vote NDP federally. But if you think things suck now, imagine Lib/NDP voters split and PP is our PM. He'd totally lean into the 51st state shit.
Yes, I understand I'm part of the overarching problem. But I'm also queer married to a trans person and the last thing my family needs is this version of the Conservative government under PP. What's happening in Alberta is a litmus test for the federal CPCs.
Totally understandable. I also did vote Carney to block PP. I wouldn't vote NDP in my riding if it's lib/con race as it usually is. I would help the movement win where it can tho. Insisting on wins in ridings where it's virtually impossible isn't useful. It's also a bit of waste of resources.
