Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
- Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.
(This list may get expanded as necessary.)
Posts that link to the following sources will be removed
- on any topic: Al Mayadeen, brusselssignal:eu, citjourno:com, europesays:com, Breitbart, Daily Caller, Fox, GB News, geo-trends:eu, news-pravda:com, OAN, RT, sociable:co, any AI slop sites (when in doubt please look for a credible imprint/about page), change:org (for privacy reasons), archive:is,ph,today (their JS DDoS websites)

- on Hungary: Euronews
Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com
(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)
Ban lengths, etc.
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the admin that applied the rule (check modlog first to find who was it.)

Maybe when they're done with that they can come over to Washington DC and crackdown on right-wing fascists over here :)
Maybe you are expected to do it yourself instead of waiting for Mueller, Bernie, the Midterms, Jesus, Europe, ... I know, it's a completely new concept.
Your smug sarcasm is neither welcome nor warranted. While I have not devoted my entire life and being to the cause, I have contributed to the cause for more than 25 years. I'm on wikipedia because of one little thing from 2009.
Your little answer doesn't deserve a huge reply, but in brief: Regime change doesn't just happen. First, you have to get the people to recognize the problems. Then you have to get people talking about the problems. Then you have to get the people out protesting so they can see there's others willing to stand up. Then, if you have a sufficient watershed event, you can get regime change. When some pieces of this happen but not others, you get things like the Wall Street protests from a few years ago that fizzled because there was anger and people were out protesting, but there wasn't a plan for change.
It's way more than one person can do. So you can try to blame me all you want because it makes you feel better about yourself, but I'm trying. I'm no Greta Thunberg or anything. If I throw myself all the way into trying to effect this change, I'll end up in prison or dead with nothing to show for it. We all have to live our lives and do our best to balance our own wellbeing, helping out others locally, helping out others around the world, working for various causes as we're able, financially supporting those as we're able. And it's harder because the fascists in the US try to keep us down as much as possible - tired and poor - precisely to control us, to make us too tired to fight.
But people are fighting, and so to flatly dismiss what people are doing is just disrespectful.
So I hope you'll take a step back and understand that I was simply making a silly joke. German police are not going to come to the US to do anything. I know, the idea of a joke is a new concept to you. Maybe you are expected to read that from context and not make a fool of yourself with your bullshit reply. But oh well, you did.
The f*ck it is! You threatened us with war. You kidnaped a head of state. You started a blatantly illegal war of aggression and bomb a country of >90 million people into oblivion (infrastructure included) and while it is going you're thinking about starting another war in Cuba because ... it's fun? You bring us to the brink of WW3. Every rogue country will try to develop nukes because it is the only protection from the USA. We pay the price for your stupidity (and with "you" I mean "you, the people"). You voted for him twice. TWICE!
Would you say the same, when we have far right governments across Europe.
While I totally agree with your points made. I think you can't blame all Americans for it. Not everyone voted for him and the ones who did, were fooled.
It is kind of hard to get rid of Trump with all the power and oligarch's he has in his circle. Will be interesting what happens in the elections in November, hopefully a big defeat for the orange.
If my government would try to end democracy, insult allies on a daily basis, threaten war on allies, kidnap a head of state and his wife, start a war in the middle east, carpet bomb the country for weeks, talk about the next military adventure while the old one is still going, erect camps where people are concentrated, ....
If all of that happens with a god-king-by-constitution leader who has the mental structure of a 5 year old, is a rapist, convicted felon and likely child rapist with zero respect for human life and dignity: Yes I would say the same. I would expect my fellow country men to end this or i would have exactly the same opinion.
