Forest? Nebraska is prairie. It is supposed to burn every spring. If it doesn't burn that is a bad thing. Nebraska has more forest than every - this is a bad thing since large forests don't belong there (small forests in places do)
the same applies to many forests - they are supposed burn regularly. However check with a knowedgeable expert as not all should burn. Details matter.
