Thanks for clarifying. I don't come in contact with the church types of social orgs at all.
Those I do come in contact with are usually pretty open.
From observations at these I'd say the problem with "No bigots allowed" is that most people are pretty nice and only a little bigoted in some respects. Also, bigotry comes in many shapes. People often are bigoted specifically about the things that made them come together in the first place. The real deciding factor is how they react if this is pointed out to them (in a non-bigoted way).
