There is definitely a better way. Its the way we did it before Covid killed it. Its called "The restaurant has its own delivery drivers." Granted there were fewer overall delivery options, but l could order delivery over the phone at all of them, which I prefer over stupid apps.

I try to do this, but since Covid, most places I order delivery from just give me a DoorDash driver anyways in a janky pop up window so I can’t track the order properly and the driver can’t contact me directly if there’s a problem

Yes 100%! I hate these apps so damn much. They lie about the menu prices and yet have the gall to charge you a bunch of fees on top of it all. And for what? Food that is usually cold and a higher chance of the driver losing my order.

My sister orders through these apps and I just don't get it. Almost half the time the dashers end up delivering it to the wrong house or missing items. My sister gets pissed, yet she'll keep ordering it. It's madness. The prices don't justify it at all, and most of it goes to the app developers and not the driver. A few years ago they were caught pocketing the drivers tips!

The driver doesn't get paid nearly as much as an employee who delivers it directly from the restaurant. The store employee will almost always care more about your food getting to you than some random underpaid door dash driver. A restaurant driver is also less likely to pull some BS like eating your food or something. Yet with door dash, I hear a bunch of horror stories.
