I've long wondered why airports don't have movie theaters, arcades, and private sleeping spaces for exactly those times when travelers have hours long layovers.

Back in the Before Times, there was a lot more freedom in airports, you could wander in and out of the terminals and there was more to do. I remember distinctly the Little Rock airport had a lot of arcade games and Nintendo 64 kiosks through the whole Southwest terminal. This was before 9/11, when our whole country decided all at once that we need to self-immolate ourselves and stop enjoying anything ever again.

I used to go to the airport and hang out. We'd go to terminals and watch planes. It was awesome.

Most high end lounges have somewhere you can nap, at least. I have this one airport I usually have a few hours before my final 50min flight to get home, and I always spend those hours in a lounge so I can get a nice shower and somewhere quiet.

Might be that the net revenue per hour of a restaurant will always win, unless you charge $50 per ticker for a movie.

Seriously. I could have watched Lord of the Rings.
