No bigotry. The Union, or at least the part of the Union WE support, fought AGAINST that shite. We are anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobic, anti-transphobic, and in general anti-bigot here, even if not all the lads in Union blue uniforms were.

And still he joined the GOP.
In his (admittedly limited) defense, he joined the GOP in a very different time. He's still filled with free market delusions, but he's a pre-Reagan Republican, and has never supported Trump.
He's definitely a mixed bag.
He seems like a normal, flawed person. Not like "racist grandpa" normal, but like, "favorite uncle who is just a bit behind the times" normal
He still signed death warrants.
