Trump is a total fool.

From Iran's point of view ironically the longer this war goes the better. They know the US is ill prepared - it is low on munitions particularly for air defences for it's allies in the region, having sold stocks to Ukraine plus used up stocks during last years attacks on Iran. Iran is throwing it's weaker missiles at the defences to use up the supplies and then will use it's better munitions plus it's reported 10k+ low tech drones to attack US allies and airbases.

And the death of their leader is likely ironically helpful to the regime. He was 85, and could have left his palace for safety well before the strikes. He stayed likely deliberately to be martyred, which is seen as a noble act in the Shia Islam faith. Trump is using western ideology when dealing with Iran, thinking the regime will collapse now he's gone. Instead it has galvanised support amongst Shia Muslims across the region, such that groups like Hezbollah are also now active again in Lebanon.

From the US point of view they have no intention of putting troops on the ground and after probably 3-4 weeks they will want an end to this war but without much to show for it. Iran know this - their focus is regime survival - not "winning" the war. Regime survival involves fighting on for as long as possible to bloody Trumps nose and force him to try to end the war. Trump will likely get frustrated fast and also worry about the mid terms.

Trump has made a huge misstep and strategic blunder. It's likely cooler heads in the Pentagon strongly advised against this war. But as we know Trump's cabinet is a "clown car" and they will have advised in favour of this stupidity. He thinks he got away with being "bold" with his strikes last year and capturing Maduro, but this blunder is likely to explode in his face and could end up being what he's remembered most for.

Lets just hope things don't get too unpredictable and things spiral further out of anyone's control.

I think the "cooler heads" actually delayed this for a couple of months. Netanyahu kept showing up because of that, and it was probably him who eventually coaxed Trump into it.

If the pentagon thought a regime change was possible, they would have capitlized on the protests.

Instead they waited until after it fizzled out, and then reinforced Iran's regime by killing their leader and bombing a school full of children.

That's highly indicative of Israel's method of operation, not necessarily the US.

I do recall an article back when Trump was going on about Greenland that indicated one of the distractions being tossed around to get him away from that idea was to strike Iran instead. It's possible those cooler heads in the Pentagon offered this up as an alternative to the US invading an ally.

Looked it up and the source of that tidbit was The Daily Mail... So grain of salt. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/army-chiefs-trying-to-distract-trump-from-greenland-invasion-plans-as-infighting-grows/ar-AA1TZRf7

This war is the best thing for putin too. With iran under seige and iran disrupting energy supplies, europe would be forced to buy energy from russia boosting its war economy, meanwhile america is occupied in iran so they cant help ukraine much, I see very volatile times ahead

Unlikely, Europe would sooner buy more lng from the US than from Russia. And Russia's drone supplier is likely not supplying much anymore, especially after Iran saw that Russia's response to the US attacking is basically nothing. Putin is almost certainly very unhappy about this.
